Champs Sports V Bowls Club Charity match Sunday 12th May.

Champs Sports was a Sunday morning football team founded and managed by our Father Stan, to enable local boys to play Football. The club started in Division 8 of the Swindon Sunday league and progressed through the divisions and competing in Division 1 for a number of years, winning many leagues titles. Many players wanted to play for the club and so many lifetime friendships were made. When Dad was diagnosed with Prostate cancer in 2014, he wanted to organise a challenge charity match against the bowls club in 2015. Unfortunately Dad didn't get to play in the match as he passed away in January 2015. The match went ahead and was such a success, that everyone suggested we continue to play each year and to raise money for charity. Over the last five years the turnout from the Champs fraternity has been overwhelming with so many people wanting to play. Each year we have had over 50 players.

The match on Sunday was no exception from previous years and the bowls club was transformed into a wonderful fund raising and fun day. Last year we raised £1450 and donated £725 to the GWH Brighter futures project and £725 Wiltshire Air Ambulance. On Sunday, we surpassed that total and raised a huge £1760. Over the 5 years we have raised circa £8000 and donated monies to, Prostate cancer, Prospect Hospice, Wiltshire Air Ambulance, GWH Brighter Futures project. This year we have decided to give it to Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Thank you to; Adi Viveash, Paul 'Oggy' Hunt and Graham Richards for making considerable generous donations. Dave Snell for the golf vouchers (raised £450 in auction) Raffle prizes - (raised £366) Crump Butchers, Occasions, Dave Hillier, Hoburne, Tracey Smith, Tina Holder, Steve Twine, Jules Onslow and anybody else not mentioned. Phil Hughes and the bowls club members that played and Wootton Bassett Bowls club. Ian Tanner & Colin Foster for doing the bar.

Look out for the date in next years calendar and be part of this special day.

Thanks  Neil, Ali, Steve, Barb Twine
